everyone has an edge

we grow up being told the stories of legends who were prodigies. michael jordan and his unique ability with basketball. mark zuckerburg and how smart he was. as humans, we like to romanticize success and model it as "you need to be the best at one thing to be successful." you need to be the fastest. the smartest. the -est of something. most people don't have that. most successful people don't have that. instead, the overlap of your skills, abilities, natural talents are what define your edge as a human being. the development of your skills is important to invest in. learning is roughly a S curve, and people at the top level of their field can get stuck in a plateau for years. this is common with athletes, where there are hall of fame level players playing at the same time. yet some of them will be forgotten in history or never win the championship. it's important to understand your edge if you want to pursue ambitious paths. it allows you to assess the right ideas and markets to pursue as well as identifying the levers you can pull to execute your idea. creating something is disrupting the norm. in order to disrupt the norm, you must have some sort of advantage. this can be a combination of timing, luck, edge, people, etc.
